Ever wondered why China's basketball superstar Yao Ming became so tall? According to Time magazine, he was the result of a decades-long experiment that matched up athletes of extraordinary dimensions and abilities. Ming's father was 2.08 meters or about 6'9" tall and his mother was 1.88 (6'2") which is about a foot taller than the average Chinese man. When 'little' Ming was born he weighed over 5 Kg. (11 pounds) and was twice as large as the average male infant. Here's more on this story:

The answer by most Japanese would be "No, there is only one race in Japan." And if one thinks about it that is technically a valid answer. But then one only has to watch TV Osaka's long-running きらきらアフロ2011 or "Glistening Afro" television show and you may see some 'comic' scenes like this:

Earlier this year Chris Noland volunteered to help cleanup the devastation from the 9.0 quake and tsunami in Northeastern Japan. While doing so he also started to produce a very interesting documentary entitled "Surviving Japan". In this film he and his assistants talk to many Japanese citizens, the government and TEPCO and their stories tell what really is happening now in the wake of the natural and nuclear disasters. Here is the trailer for this film:

Last year it was heavily rumored that Justin Beiber was to include North Korea in his 'My World Tour'. However, that rumor was said to just be an internet prank.
But now suddenly a new video has surfaced of a live performance by J-Beebs in Pyongyang! However he only sang one song as apparently the Beiber Fever has afflicted many North Korean people in a very bad way and therefore he was not well received:

But when The Dear Leader passed away today, he was riding on a train. The Chosun Central News Agency stated, "Chairman Kim passed away in the train on December 17th of 2011 at 8:30am due to physical overwork."
When they give him a funeral it will probably turn out to be like this:

Bale was in China to promote the opening of his latest film The Flowers of War. A film based on the true story of the Japanese Nanjing Massacre in 1937. This movie just opened yesterday in China and will open in the US later this month. Here is a trailer for that film:

In an effort to get more Japanese herbivores interested in girls and gambling, the Japan Racing Association (JRA) just released it's free online horse racing dating game called My Sweet Umadonna - Me and You and our horse or My sweet ウマドンナ ~僕は君のウマ~. The title is a word play where UMA = "horse" and "Madonna"= "Madonna" or "The Virgin Mary" or "Dream Girl" or whatever. Anyway, it appears as though the objective of this game is to start a relationship with an anime character or fake girlfriend and then go to the horse races together.

Our venerable Japanese News correspondent just sent in this stunning new scoop of David Bowie as a Japanese Salaryman:

David Bowie and Masayoshi Sukita are now working together on this new photo book entitled "Speed of Life". This book can be pre-ordered here.

Talking of coffee tables, here are some glimpses of a glossy new book by Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita. Speed of Life (a snip at £360) shows Sylvian’s direct forebear and antecedent David Bowie posing in Kyoto during a holiday there in 1979 — the time he was hanging out with Sinologist David Kidd.

Bowie, after hinting that Japan was to be his new home, left for New York, explaining that Japan would make him “too Zen”, which would cause him to stop writing.

But perhaps the oddest and most interesting of Sukita’s images, revealed for the first time in the new book, are the studio shots where he portrays Bowie as a salaryman on his way to work, attempting to beat the clock

”The scene, brief and looped, has the elusive appeal of a new Yeti or Bigfoot reel. Joe Salama, who posted the fragment, says: “This exceptional cine footage was taken by my late father on a trip up to the West End of London totally unaware that David Bowie was the young dude that smiles graciously at the camera.”
"Well, I thought I could do better than that, and before long I’d googled enough to publish with some confidence the true facts of this remarkable document. Somebody in the comments points out that it’s more likely to be 1966 or 1965. I’m able to confirm that this is spring 1965."
"I also found this Lower Third handbill, drawn by Bowie himself in 1965, showing him with the same hairstyle and the same high rounded shirt collar you see in the film."

In recent news, PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has labelled the popular iconic Super Mario character as a promoter of the fur industry! Apparently in Nintendo's new Super Mario 3D Land game Mario puts on a Tanuki suit and gains the power to glide. But PETA says that is some kind of animal abuse and it has even launched an online game called Mario Kills Tanooki:

Notice the incorrect spelling of Tanuki which clearly shows that PETA is wrong yet again!
Needless to say, this has created quite an uproar in mass media and all over the internet. Here is a clever animated response by NMA.TV:

David Bowie may leave troubled EMI 08 Nov 2011
David Bowie's contract ends in January and he is reportedly in talks with Universal Music and Sony.
David Bowie is reportedly on the brink of walking away from EMI, the troubled UK music group in the middle of an auction, after a 15-year relationship in which the label held the rights to the bulk of his back catalogue including classic albums Ziggy Stardust and Space Oddity.
Bowie's contract comes to an end in January and the Financial Times reports today that EMI have declined to comment.
Bowie is apparently in talks with Universal Music and Sony Music, who hold the rights to his output since 1995. Continued...

After all, it is now true what they say and North Korea is Best Korea as the DPRK defeated Japan 1-0 in yesterday's 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match in Pyongyang. Here are some of the game's highlights:With this win, North Korea has also been awarded the Unofficial World Champion Football Title:
North Korea 1-0 Japan

15/11/2011, Pyongyang
Scorer: Nam Chol Pak
'Japan’s long reign as UFWC champions came to an end today in Pyongyang, as North Korea became the new unofficial football world champions. Midfielder Nam Chol Pak was the hero for the North Koreans, who fought hard for a deserved victory against an admittedly weakened Japan side. North Korea, ranked just 124th in the world by FIFA, become one of the most unlikely unofficial champions in UFWC history, proving that anything can happen over the course of 90 minutes." While many countries attempt in vain to overthrow Japan as THE #1 WTF superpower, China may now have a lock on the world's #1 Forever Alone artist:

Actually, this is one of the many incredible works by China's world-renowned camouflage artist Liu Bolin. His work has been shown in many countries and one of his recent solo exhibitions “The Invisible Man,” was produced by Eli Klein Fine Art and held in New York.

But before asking yourself "Why, China, Why?" Bolin's art is considered by many as a very poignant statement on our world and the anonymous state of so many poverty-stricken people all over the globe. Early in his career, his exhibits were shut down by Chinese authorities making him virtually 'anonymous' but through that experience he developed his art even more. "My pieces talk about the question of the social status of art in general. In my work the artist is hiding to restore his strength and to protect himself," says Bolin.
After graduating with a master's degree from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2001, Bolin became a college teacher but resigned after only four years. He then moved to Beijing's old city of Suo Jia Village and began his fantastic voyage. You can see more of Bolin's work here.

Much like Japan's Yamaichi Securities and Livedoor, now the Olympus Corporation has been caught cooking its books for the past two decades! Apparently it all started back in the '90s over some bad investments that were covered up instead of written off. This all came about earlier this year after the company's first foreign CEO Michael Woodford recently questioned some past acquisitions and excessive advisory fees paid to mysterious middle men. Following that, Woodford was then immediately fired after only two weeks on the job! Sounds all too familiar with some other Gaijin and other Japanese firms these days.
However, a premonition of this global firm's explosive collapse was actually seen at least two years prior when the legendary Blendtec team created this funny and prophetic video Will It Blend? - New Olympus Cameras Get Mixed by Blendtec:

Just after the 3-11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster that struck Fukushima, world wide media immediately focused on Japan. Shortly after that, a group of Japanese artists known as Chim↑Pom launched their own nuclear art attack on Tokyo's Shibuya station and added a very relevant and explosive guerrilla installation to Taro Okamoto's "Myth of Tomorrow" mural which is an historical homage to Japan's previous nuclear holocausts:

This installation piece entitled "Level 7 feat. Myth of Tomorrow" created a big scandal as at first it was anonymously featured in world news and Japanese headlines. This work was very skillfully done in order to blend in with Okamoto's style. Within an hour from installation it was all over Twitter and other social sites. Then it was quickly reported by mainstream Japanese media. A day later it was taken down by the police and called "graffiti" and "malicious mischief." A police investigation followed and public debates in the press and on the internet discussed whether or not it was a crime. Soon afterwards Chim↑Pom released this video on Youtube:
and created even more controversy! Following that the group held a press conference and admitted that it was their work and added it to their ensuing "Real Times" exhibition which was held from May 20th - May 25th in Tokyo and from June 20th - 27th in Osaka. After both exhibitions, the police came and investigated the group's leaders and the "graffiti" case was sent to court early in July.
Well, now Chim↑Pom is making world wide headlines once again with their new "Super Rat" exhibit. In this installation they have further developed their shock art style by catching a bunch of big, huge rats in Shibuya's Centa Gai area and making them into taxidermic Pikachus aimed at Japanese girls who dress up as the famous anime character and ravage Shibuya in hordes:

Here is a recent interview with the group:
IMHO, more of this kind of art really needs to be made in Japan today. For more information about the legendary Chim↑Pom, please visit their official website.

Google, Private-Equity Firms Mull Bid For Yahoo
"Google and prospective partners have held early-stage discussions but haven't put together a formal proposal and Google may end up not pursuing a bid, this person said. It is unclear which private-equity firms Google has talked to."
"As Microsoft and other companies consider buying search engine and media company Yahoo, questions arise over how much the company is worth, MarketWatch's Dan Gallagher reports on Markets Hub."
"Any deal tying two of the biggest Internet companies would be sure to attract antitrust scrutiny. Federal antitrust lawyers in 2008 thwarted a Web-search advertising partnership between the companies. A year later Yahoo signed a 10-year search partnership with Microsoft Corp."

Just kidding. It doesn't work that way. And this model is obviously a promo for the toilet manufacture. But wait, there's more! This new shit cycle also plays music, talks and generates some kind of “residual light imagery to write messages in the air as it zooms by.” Whatever.

For decades, people all around the world have listened to David Bowie's Five Years and/or watched this live in Tokyo video or other video versions of it millions and millions of times. But watching and listening to it today, one can really understand this song's profound significance:
"Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying..."

"Rocketeer" is a very creative, funny and award-winning Hong Kong television commercial for NutriGreen's LDF Cordyceps Health Supplement:
According to the main actor in this commercial, Jayson Li:
"The campaign I worked on for NutriGreen's LDF Cordyceps Health Supplement (《綠養坊》LDF純冬蟲夏草) was launched not too long ago. The "Rocketeer" campaign consists of a television commercial, directed by Chan Man Chung, and a print ad with the production house being Film Factory and the advertising agency being Leo Burnett Hong Kong. The TVC was recently featured in the Chinese language newspaper Ming Pao (明報), Attuworld Nederland and on Virgin Radio Toronto. The TVC was also recently screened at the Cannes Lions 58th International Festival of Creativity which was held at the Palais de Festivals in Cannes, France."
Note: This commercial was also selected as a winner in the 2011 Spikes Asia - Asia's Creative Advertising Festival and Awards.
Brief Explanation:
"Most people in Hong Kong live a crazily hectic life - long working hours, overtime on weekends, and a packed social life. Most of them feel drained before they even get up in the morning. To dramatize this phenomenon, this commercial shows how a businessman loses his energy before he even gets to work. The answer of course, is Nutrigreen LDF Cordyceps, a health supplement that helps people maintain their energy level throughout the day".

As seen at Kobe station the other day:

「日本は終了しました。」= "Japan is finished."
Actually, this is either a very good photoshop edit or the sign's letters were reversed as 「本日は終了しました。」= "Today's (train service) is finished." is very commonly seen in train stations all over the nation.
